How come Rockbox still has zero video playback support on the iPod Video?

I mean, it has the MPEG Player plugin, but that's a bit annoying to use since MPEG1 and MPEG2 videos have ridiculous filesizes. Will the iPod Video port ever have support for MP4 videos, or will that poor video decoder chip forever remain ignored and unused?

saratoga:
I doubt anyone is going to do the (extreme) amount of work required to reverse engineer an entire second processor just to watch 320x240 resolution videos at a slightly lower bitrate. If you really want to though, no one is going to stop you.

failsandwich:
I guess you're right. There'd be no real benefit to doing such a thing. I certainly wouldn't be able to reverse-engineer the video chip, and even if I could I'm far too lazy and easily sidetracked to actually finish it. Guess I'll just have to keep using Windows Media Center...

iPodHackz:

Not to be rude, but this sounds unnecessary. There are instructions on how to convert videos quickly and easily using VLC right on the wiki:

https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/Main/PluginMpegplayer#How_To_Encode_Files (scroll down a little and you'll find them)

This is the easiest and most fool-proof way of doing so, and will work on every OS that has a port of VLC to it.
