Trying to solder an old SanDisk Sansa Clip+ mp3 directly to a USB cable - possib

Hello,

So as many of us that are in quarantine, I decided to look into the broken equipment I had around the house.

I found my old Sansa Clip+ mp3 player, which I believe, broke due the swollen battery; or liquids. It did not have any light on after trying to turn it on, neither was recognized on a computer.

I opened it up, took off the battery and thought: why not connect it directly to a USB cable?

The battery itself has what I think, a BMS system, and it has 3 cables, red, blue and black. My USB cable (previously USB-microUSB) has black, red, green and white.

I took of the BMS of the swollen battery and soldered it as below in the picture (mind the blue cable, that at the time of the photo, unsoldered). When I tried to see if it worked, nothing happened.

When verifying the voltage, the input on the BMS is 5V (using a cellphone charger connected to the USB cable) and the output of the BMS around 2.5V (which is quite below the 3.7V of the battery).

As I'm not expertise on soldering neither on electronics, maybe this is just a stupid idea that of course will not work. As I do not know if the device is correctly working, I didn't want to spend money on a battery (around 5€). Nevertheless, is there any recommendation you can give me?

I think the board on the battery is probably just a temperature sensor. This link has some info:

I'm not sure if you can feed 5v into the battery terminal, that might be too high. Why don't you add to the 5v rail?
