Clip zip power consumption
« on: February 17, 2020, 04:48:14 AM »
Hello,

I have two clip zips that are running rockbox 3.15. Both are working fine, but one of them drains the battery considerably faster than the other. I opened them up and conected them to a bench powersupply. During playback of mp3 files, with the display turned off, one draws around 10mA, while the second one draws 30mA. Reinstallation of rockbox did not change the power consumption.
Has anyone seen similar behaviour, or knows what could cause this?

Delete the config file to reset everything just to make sure. Also worth rebooting into the Sandisk firmware just to check that there isn't a short wasting current independent of software.

Hey, thanks for the fast reply.
So i uninstalled rockbox using the utility and copied the original firmware to the player. Then i booted it, let it update  and then deleted the remaining .rockbox folder. When playing an mp3 in the original firmware, the power draw drops to something ~23mA. Then i installed rockbox again and here the player draws again around 30mA. If i switch between rockbox and original firmware the respective values stay the same.

What if you delete the config file?

Which config file exactly do you mean? The config.conf in the .rockbox folder, or the SYS_CONF.SYS in the / directory, or something else?

Shouldn't that have been removed when i deleted the rockbox folder? But sure, i will check what happens if i delete just the config.cfg.

If you actually deleted the .rockbox folder, yes it would be deleted with it.  Uninstalling doesn't delete that folder though IIRC.

Yes, the rockbox folder is not deleted when uninstalling rockbox. That's why i deleted it manually.
Now i just deleted the config.cfg, but still have the same behaviour.
