iPod Classic model indication & RockBox Utility

All classics are similar enough to be treated as the same model. The ipod video is not a classic and is very different. Emcore only runs on the classic (and ipod nano 2g IIRC, which is similar)

Ok, it is more than 5 years ago now;) Anyway, it seems that the EmCore was necesarry just for iPod Classic rev. 2008 (thick models), correct?
So how about EmCore today? Is it a history or is it still part of Rockbox Utility?
Anyway, Rockbox Utility works same for all iPod Classic 6G models now, am i right?

--- Quote from: rox on February 14, 2020, 06:24:54 AM ---As for the iFlash: what do you suggest is to always transfer files (mp3s) via iTunes only, then to switch to RockBox and normally play mp3?
--- End quote ---
No need to use iTunes. Transfer files with drag-and-drop, but with Ipod in OF mode. Then switch to Rockbox. You _could_ use iTunes to transfer if you really wanted to, but you'll end up with stupid file names, making the file-browser useless.

Yeah, i know that normally i do not need iTunes data transfer. But Saratoga recommends the data transfer via iTunes to prevent the data corruption with usage of iFlash adapter - and this why asked about that i.e. because of the iFlash adapter. So is it somehow possible to use data transfers via iTunes on Rockboxed iPod Classic?
Frankenpod:
No, you misunderstand. The recommendation isn't "transfer via iTunes" but "transfer with the ipod in OF mode rather than rockbox mode". That doesn't need iTunes. As I said, no need to use iTunes - doing so doesn't gain you anything, whether you have a flash adaptor or not, other than, I suppose, allowing you to play music in the original firmware mode as well as rockbox mode (but only assuming you aren't exceeding the limitations of the original firmware with number of tracks or size of storage).
rox:
I am sorry to ask that. But can you tell me what "OF" means? Does it mean an offline mode? How do i enter in OF mode? If is it a safer way for data transfer with iFlashed iPod, i will certainly go this way.
And does Rockbox work same with all 6G models now, thick and slim? Rockbox does not make any differences between iPod Classic rev. 2008 and 2009?
Frankenpod:
"Original Firmware Mode".
With the dual-boot method you can boot into OF mode and copy files across. That avoids disk corruption problems.
However if you have a 6G you will run into the problem of the 128gb limit thing, so that won't work.
The earlier classics (80, fat 160, 120) have that lba28 limitation thing, the final ones (slim 160, firmware 2.0.4 and 2.0.5) don't. So in practice they are significantly different.
With the earlier models you have to just hope you can get lucky and copy stuff in rockbox mode without corruption issues - some people apparently find that works for them, but some don't (hence constant requests for help with that issue on here).
