Track names on playlists
« on: October 28, 2019, 06:27:01 AM »
I have a problem with filenames (track names) on playlitsts (Ipod). Instead of full names of the track the explorer (only on playlists) displays random 4 characters. I gone past the manual, but i cant find a proper setting for this. Can anyone help me?

This files was imported from iTunes with apple firmware, rockbox read metadata in his database but filenames remain in encrypted shitty apple style.

To repeat Duceboia's point - there's not a setting for it, because the issue is iTunes, not Rockbox.  iTunes obfuscates file names in an irritatingly pointless way (was it originally a misguided effort at DRM?).  One benefit of Rockbox is you don't have to use iTunes to sync.  Drag and drop or use some other media manager to transfer files and you won't have the problem.

(I suppose it might be possible to give an optional iTunes behaviour where when showing playlists it lists the track name tags rather than the filename?  But that would presumably be a lot of work?)

[edit to credit the right poster name!]

You could use a program like "Advanced Renamer" to batch rename the files based on their titles. However, this will prevent you from using them with the original firmware.

My guess is that it was to keep the iTunes/iPod Database memory/size footprint low (among other reasons). If you convert all filenames to 4 characters then you only need to store 4 chars per file in the DB. Probably faster look ups too.
