I inserted an 8gb sd card formatting it in fat32 and everything works fine. So the problem is that a 256gb sd card cannot be used because the software that was suggested to me to format in fat32 does not work and windows 10 does not support fat32 format for 256gb. If anyone knows another method to format the 256gb sd card in fat32 is welcome, otherwise if anyone knows other solutions ... Thanks

Has anyone on the rockbox fiio used a 256gb or larger sd card? It seems strange

Which software are you using for formatting?

AOMEII works for me.

Also - maybe this is rather obvious, but I assume you are formatting the card using a card-reader, not while it's in the player?  And that the card-reader itself supports cards >128gb?

The Fiio firmware can format SD cards if you go to System Settings > Format. That might be worth trying if you haven't done so already. I'm successfully using a 256GB SanDisk card in the M3K without issues, but I format my SD cards from Linux.

I don't understand why you'd have this error: "the file ... is too large for the target file system". Normally that means you're trying to copy a large file which is bigger than 2 gigabytes. Just to be clear I do not mean the combined size of all the files, I mean one single file which is bigger than 2 GB.

Does this problem only happen when using USB from Rockbox? Does it still happen if you use USB under the original Fiio firmware, or if you use a USB card reader directly with your computer?

@mario69, I had a problem originally with a Sandisk 256GB SD card until I discovered that it had been formatted to EXFAT.  Since formatting it to FAT32 (under linux) it has worked perfectly well.

You might want to try the Windows freeware SD card formatting tool offered by https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/  That should clear up if the problem is the card itself or the formatting.  I've never used this tool personally, but it seems to be legit.

I start rockbox via jztool bootloader, all OK (playing music, navigation of folders, settings) when I shutdown M3K and restart with power button, the player boots in OF (Every Time). Where is my fault?

You need to install the bootloader on the M3K too.

Copy the bootloader to the sd card, run the bootloader following the instructions and install the bootloader to the device.

Thanks 7o9 & vitt13 for pointing me in the right direction.
Works like a charm.

the situation at the moment is as follows: i have correctly formatted the sd in fat32 i inserted the card in a sansa clip and everything works correctly. while if i transfer files by connecting the fiio player via usb, compare the error message: insert a disk in the 'usb drive. I assume that the player starts rockbox correctly and does not give me error messages. If I transfer the files by attaching the sd card directly to the computer, it does  work correctly.

It sounds like the problem is definitely due to USB handling in Rockbox. Just to confirm, does USB file transfer work correctly under the original FiiO firmware?

The error message you're getting is a bit suspicious. I can't say for certain but you may be hitting a known issue where the USB connection is detected but doesn't finish setting up properly. I don't know the cause of this problem so I can't say if/when it will be fixed... sorry.

As a workaround, you can always boot into the original firmware to use USB, or just use an external card reader.

I've been working on porting jztool to JavaScript using WebUSB, so that the bootloader can be installed from a web browser. As a bonus, this should allow installation from Windows without having to deal with drivers, as well as from ChromeOS and Android devices.

I still need to polish up the port (JavaScript is not my main language), but it seems to work reliably for me. It shouldn't be hard to add support for other players as jztool does.

Hopefully this proves helpful!

Nice work! It's definitely a welcome addition and it sounds interesting, support for more platforms is always nice. I'm looking forward to seeing it. Although it appears WebUSB is effectively limited to Chrome & its derivatives.

jztool.js 0.1

Enough polishing, here's an initial version to play around with, with support with the M3K (tested) and the Q1 (untested). Extract the attached archive (.bin extension added to allow uploading here) to a local webserver along with bootloader.m3k and/or bootloader.q1, then it should Just Work.

Please use at your own risk!

Note for Linux users: You'll almost certainly have to add a udev rule so your user can access the USB device. For instance:
Code: [Select]
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="a108", ATTR{idProduct}=="1000", MODE="0664", GROUP="plugdev"Then make sure your user is in the plugdev group.
* jztooljs-0.1.tar.gz.bin (3.93 kB - downloaded 25 times.)

Was installing an older version of Rockbox for my M3k (the one that matched with 1.3.0), and for some reason, I can't get Windows to recognize the SD card anymore.

I've tried:
- Booting it into Rockbox, and using the Volume Down + plugging in the USB
- Booting into the OF, and turning the USB mode into Storage

Any ideas? A little freaked out that I may have bricked my M3K from being able to read the SD card altogether.
