I just ordered one.   the steps seem pretty easy ... I've pieced together that its juts a matter of putting the .rockbox folder in the root of the sd card.    As long as your running version two of the rocker firmware.  If not, it seems there's a firmware patch that we need too.   mine should arrive tomorrow,   i'll post my experience.

please someone correct me if im wrong.     My understanding is that there is no bootloader,  that agptek did the kernel update itself and it only supports dual booting...  so you have to select rocker or rockbox when you start up, everytime.  ...  if you on an older version of the official firmware you need to update it to the current version (2?)

this is how i've pieced this together from all the pages of forum posts

id be happy to help build this wiki ....  after i get my player and muss with it... wanna join me?  ... ill pass you my email

ok, thanks a lot.

one more quick question - where to find an up-to-date rockbox manual install instruction for the rocker?

what steps are necessary?

Hi,

Here are the steps for getting rockbox firmware onto the agptek rocker:

Latest precompiled bootloader by me: update_rb.upt:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wKUaxM4Zxs2850x5jeVBLI4DvbtbQTCJ/view

rockbox.zip:

You can get a newer rockbox.zip file from here:

https://build.rockbox.org/

And download the agptek rocker one of course.

2.
Instructions for install:

Extract the folder out of rockbox.zip Take the folder out of that named ".rockbox" and put it directly into your sd card. Put update_rb.upt directly into sd card as well, and once in there, rename it too update.upt

Next turn on player go to the settings of the main operating system player you'll need to choose the update firmware option. It should upgrade and then you'll have a choice to choose rockbox, the original agptek rocker os and some tools. You might need to shut down player and restart to get the rockbox working though.

Hi, i believe for the agptek rocker the oem firmware already installed: you can just install rockbox right away i think.

But you will need the bootloader file i posted in my last post.

This is the page with the compiling info for the bootloader which I linked earlier:

https://github.com/wodz/rockbox-wodz/tree/agptek-rocker/tools/agptek_rocker

If you want to compile the latest dev build for the rocker:

well, if that is the case, i will clearly stick to fw 1.2 2017, so to boot up straight into rb.

@milardo: regarding the patched fw, which ofw is it based on and can you boot right into rb with it?

It's a dual boot solution, but you can enter rockbox right away by just pressing the enter/play button. I'm not sure what ofw it is based on sorry.

oh well, never mind - i believed it is your own build. any chance to contact the maintainer of that patched fw then?

one more question: regarding the few new devel devices like sony nwz, xduoo, rocker - which one is the most advanced rb experience?

or in other words - is the rocker choice n1 when looking for a new rboxable player?

Actually the build is not mine, i followed the compiling instructions and uploaded it for people.. On the forum here and i think the irc channel- user "wodz" is the one to ask about it.

I think the rocker is the best choice, except that the battery life isn't too good at the moment-6 + hours

Yes the rocker is the lowest priced, it still can be bought new, that's probably the best choice for a new rockboxable player. Sony nwz ones aren't new anymore, and the xduoo can be pricey.

Hey .... do I go through the install process

It seems to reboot, then for a split second each screen

screen 1 - Insert TF PLs
Screen 2 - Updater V 1.1
Screen 3 -  v-v failed

Then it reboots back to the original firmware.  Mine says version 1.31 Beta

Any Ideas?

So ... i discovered this post ... apperently there is different version rockers?   I downgraded using the below intructions ... to version 1.2

I still cannot upgrade to the rb firmware and get the v_v error.

any thoughts ?

Unless I am mistaken, only underst0rm has managed to do this successfully by opening up the device, soldering access through serial console, and making a date fix.

My fingers are crossed that (sometime in the near future) something will be figured out that will allow flashing from the device.

Not true. In the end, the fix is only to change the version string in the image, not something on the player. No need to open up the device.

Under Linux, I can modify the AGPTEK image to flash on the T6 like this:

Code: [Select]
# Download imagearchive and extract image
$ wget http://images.agptek.us/Download/AGPTEK_ROCKER\(20171101\).rar
$ unrar e AGPTEK_ROCKER\(20171101\).rar

# Extract the internal image files into the "iso" folder
xorriso -osirrox on -ecma119_map lowercase -indev ROCKER_update.upt -extract / iso

# Open iso/version.txt, Replace ver=1.0.0.0 with ver=2018-10-07T00:00:00+08:00

# Repack into an update image
xorriso -as mkisofs -volid 'CDROM' --norock -output uROCKER_update_1.8_beta.upt iso

The same process works also on a rockbox enabled 1.2 firmware. I'm sure you can also use windows, as long as you find something which can unpack and pack an iso image.
