How can I tell if I have completely removed Rockbox from a Sansa Fuze?

(1/1)

Doghouse Riley:
Bought a used Fuze v2 off ebay.   Seemed to install the official 3.14 build okay except that it threw a

"No Partition Found Insert USB Cable and fix it"

error every time I booted with the SD slot empty.

Did not find an answer for that problem here (iPods seem to have shown this error but not Sansas)  so I tried removing/reinstalling both the official 3.14 and the latest build as shown in the installer.  Every time I tried to remove the bootloader, I got the message which told me that the installer could not do that and I needed to run the factory firmware update instead.

Anyway, long story short, I was tinkering with it again this morning, got a panic message when I shut it down and now it's bricked, so I am waiting for the battery to run down so I can start messing with it again.  In the meantime -

Is it possible that some part of RB is not getting removed when I do the factory firmware update thing?  Could that be part of my problem?   How can I tell?  Would formatting the player in windows completely purge all of Rockbox?

Thanks to the devs and everyone else for Rockbox.  I don't leave home without it!

saratoga:
Updating the Sandisk firmware completely removed the rockbox bootloader. After that you can delete the .rockbox folder if you want

You can probably reboot your player without waiting for the battery to die by holding the power button for 30 seconds or so.

Doghouse Riley:
Thank you.

Is it normal for the Rockbox utility to regularly tell me "can't uninstall the bootloader, reflash the factory firmware" or is that a sign that something's not right?

saratoga:
Normal, rockbox utility cannot install the Sandisk firmware, so you have to do that.
