rockbox and battery status (h300)
« on: July 13, 2006, 02:39:07 AM »
here's what happened yesterday to me:

I charged my H320 all day thru USB in the iRiver firmware.
when it said "completed" I started rockbox, and applied kosh's newest experimental build.

when I rebooted, rockbox reported the battery to be empty, and thus refused to boot. (screen went blank, device turned off right after ROLO)
the iRiver firmware reported the battery as full though.
I then listened to a few songs in the org firmware, then tried to boot rockbox, and it showed the batt as full.

Seems usb charging and battery statutes somehow dont go together very well....?

Most odd. I've not had problems with USB charging, other than it seems to be enabled and disabled across CVS builds almost at random. ;)

Perhaps it was a one-off?

there's still one chip uncontrolled, namely one that deals with the usb charging. Its behaviour can be changed fro within the iriver firmware, or using a patch that's in the tracker

Will this patch help with extreemly short battery life? I can only get a few hours out of a full charge.  The orginal firmware has a much longer life.  Most of the time when the battery indicator reaches about 1/2 the unit will just stop playing.

What build are you using?
The current rockbox build will give you more battery life than the original firmware.

The patch mentioned above deals with USB charging.

I'm using Ver. 060717, the only thing I can figure is that my battery is going south. Its dumping prematurely. I only charge it off the adapter.

There is no replacement battery available for it is there?

Sure, check out misticriver (see icon on your left). It does require you to open up your player and get in touch with the hardware, but guides (with pictures) are available.

Edit by Llorean: Added the 'p' in 'player' to avoid confusion.

Here is the direct link.

It's a great guide with step-by-step pictures. It's referenced anytime anyone mentions opening up their player!

Thanks Denny!
