ipod classic keeps powering down, not charging -edit - solved

I am a rockbox beginner and I just installed rockbox, and the ipod is plugged in, but keeps powering down and not charging, how to fix? I got it to scan for music, and then it restarted and is trying to build database 1 of 9, but keeps powering down before it completes 9 of 9 and not charging. Please help. edit - i realized my ipod has a bad battery so I just factory restored.
