Hi - new here. Q: Regarding Ipod Video and RockBox
(1/1)

Hello,
I've fitted an Ipod Video with an SD Card upgrade - 128 gigs.
Been using Media Monkey to organize and synchronize the music library with the ipod
Been having some issues with playback - specifically songs ending too soon.
The songs do not end early on the version stored on the computer, only on the Ipod.
Thought it could be the SD card - got a new one = same results
However, this time "different" songs.
Songs copied FROM the iPod (known to end too soon) BACK to the PC play in their entirety.
I've borrowed a friends FIIO X1 - and the problematic songs DO PLAY in their entirety there.
I've searched, and found some people who have noted that songs do end early on the ipods (with iTunes or ...) so I guess there's a problem?
So, if I were to install RockBox on this iPod - do you think that I would get any better playback performance? (i.e. songs playing in their entirety)

This happens with the iflash quad. You will need to delete your files and transfer them via disk mode. the built in USB mode has issues with these iFlash devices.

Hi,
Thanks for that bit of info...
So, to clarify - if I were to install RockBox on this iPod Video, I would have to transfer all the files using "disk mode"? and not use iTunes or Media Monkey - correct?

You could use iTunes or MM if you wanted. No reason why you couldn't use them for media management, and even for file transfer if you really wanted to. Not sure why you'd want to do the latter though.
Also if using MM, you then have to decide what plug-in to use for the transfer - you could transfer it like a mass media device or like an iPod. But far easier to just drag-and-drop or use a robocopy script. Especially as the mass media device plug-in for MM never worked particulrly well, in my experience.
Main thing is just to boot the player into OF mode before doing the transfer.
I use MM for media management and robocopy for sync.

I had a custom iPod that worked very well for lockbox but I ended up selling it and switching to a clip zip because iPods are made up of moving mechanical parts so its only a matter of time before it breaks and needs to be repaired
Clip Zip is minimally evasive hardware and your music library can live on an easily removable Micro SD. If you want to configure your iPod it must be opened up carefully. Then you also have to deal with iTunes, etc.
I think the clip zip is the best rockbox player, especially now that you can buy 400 gb micro sd cards for less than $100
