iPod 6g won't start up anymore

My iPod 6g which has had rockbox installed on it for many years will no longer start up when plugged in. I know it must be dead but has no time to charge with the constant cycle it goes through when I plug it in. The screen flashes "loading emcore...", then "Emcore v0 2.3 r856" appears for a second and then the screens shuts off and starts the cycle over again. I left it plugged in going through the cycle to see if it charges at least a bit but it doesn't seem to. Any help would be very appreciated, thank you
