iPod video 5.5 freezing
« on: August 29, 2018, 09:04:03 AM »
For the past year I've been heavily using a 4gb fuze v2 w/ rockbox that I got at Goodwill for $5 and it has been a great experience. Anyway, I wanted an upgrade so I got everything I needed for a ipod 5.5g flash installation. Well, rockbox is successfully installed but the transfers are incredibly slow, slightly better than USB 1.1 speeds (using iflash solo and Samsung Evo select 128gb also trying silicon power 128gb) and often pauses and starts back up again, reminiscent of the old drive spinning up and down, but with the sd card installed. And most of the time it fails about 10% of the way through a 50gb transfer because rockbox has locked up on the device, this transfer is successful however when it's in "apple" mode. Anyway, with all the files on there it's still terrible, freezing between songs up to a minute at a time rendering it virtually unusable.

Anyone have experience with this?

This is not what I expected coming from a budget iPod nano clone

File transfer is known to be unreliable on flash-modded ipods when using rockbox, but should be fine if you stick to OF mode.  Everyone with a modded ipod transfers files that way.

Why it's freezing after that I have no idea.  Assuming you haven't still got corrupted files (or even file systems) on there from failed attempts to sync with rockbox mode.  Probably best to reformat completely and start again with only using OF mode to sync.

I assume you are certain the card itself is a good/non-fake one?
