iPod Classic 6G 160GB battery drains completely from full on "Update Now"

I recently installed Rockbox on my 6G as per the instructions here: https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IpodClassicPort

I am having an issue where heavy disk read operations (initializing and/or updating the database) drain the battery to the point where the device is forced to power down before the operation finishes. I should note that this iPod was in well working order before I switched to Rockbox, and the battery is just fine during normal use as well.

Any suggestions?

Let your computer do all the battery consuming work and use the UISimulator for building the database and pictureflow slides. Then transfer all created files to your iPod.
You could do a battery bench and compare the results with https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IpodRuntime to see if your battery life is ok.
