Insert shuffled uses the same songs again
« on: July 07, 2018, 03:27:48 PM »
Hi,
I am still trying to find the best way to shuffle my complete library which is more than 32000 files.
When I use the context menu to insert shuffled it seems to use the same songs all the time,
Some albums/artists are used all the time, while others never showed up. so some of my music will never be played.
I like the database feature where I can go to album and then random, and this offers me a random album.
But I can not find a way to play all songs randomly.
Could anybody explain to me, how I could achieve this?
Or is this not possible with a library of more than 32000 songs?
Is there any way to modify some file in Rockbox to set the playlist limit to higher number than 32000? Then I could just create a playlist with all songs and play it on shuffle...
Please let me know.
Thank you very much!

Make a backup of the config.cfg file in the .rockbox subdirectory on the player.

Then edit the original file, and try increasing the value on the line:

max files in playlist: 32000

Depending on player, it should work okay, though will result in less memory available for other things. You can always revert if it causes problems!

Hey RufusA,
Wow, i did it and it works.
Thanks a lot!
On my Ipod Classic 7.5 with Tarkan Quad i have all my 65000+ songs in one huge playlist.
No issues.
Problem solved.

Hello. need some help

i am close to the max 32000 limit on my sansa clip. is there any chance of some step by step guidance on how to extend the limit. I'm a bit of a rockbox novice unfortunately.

Many thanks

connect your device to a computer via USB, then use the file browser to access and edit the CFG file like rufus said

Thank you. I have tried this but it always reverts back to 32000 when I turn the player back on. when I plug it back in the computer on the congig file it returns to 32000.

From the manual  -

A special case configuration file can be used to force a particular setting or settings every time Rockbox starts up (e.g. to set the volume to a safe level). Format a new configuration file as above with the required setting(s) and save it into the /.rockbox directory with the filename fixed.cfg.

to spell it out - you need the setting in the fixed.cfg file not the config.cfg file.  The latter gets recreated when booting up, the former does not.

(Alternatively you can use a different config file and then select it to 'activate' it, but the 'fixed' one gets activated every boot automatically, which is probably what you want)
