Rockbox for playing Classical music with custom tags
« on: June 15, 2018, 09:06:36 PM »
Hello,

My apologies if this is not the right sub-forum to post my question.

I already ripped couple of hundred of classical music CDs. The tag information that the ripper programs (I use several), get from online databases is just awful so I will embark into tagging all tracks by myself. I will be using a lot of costume tags like, original instrument, soloist, soloist instrument, choral, choral conductor, movement, transposed instrument, etc.

It is possible for Rockbox to recognize those tags? Can I for example tell Rockbox to play all tracks with Genere: Classical Baroque, Original Instrument: Violin; Transposed Instrument: Guitar? Can the info of those tags be disaplyed on the screen?

I'm using the iRiver iHP-140

Thanks!

I don't think custom tags are supported at all.

I suppose to get them displayed (but not sorted or anything like that) you could cram them all into the 'comment' field.

(Actually, I think there would be a way of using a custom tagnavi to use that comment field to allow some sort of selection.  Use the comment field as a filter, and put your own concise codes in there to include the information you want to filter by.  Would be tediously complicated though, you'd have to come up with your own method of encoding that information in a way that allows you to filter it in the ways you want, and then write the custom tagnavi script to do that.  Would really be a lot of effort).
