iPod FM Radio Remote on iPod Classic (7th Gen)?

I apologize if this has already been discussed, however I couldn't find any references to my specific question anywhere.

I know that the FM Radio Remote is compatible with the iPod (5.5th Generation) from http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=23295.0, however I can't seem to determine whether or not it is compatible with newer generation iPods. It works just fine on Apple's firmware on my 7th-gen Classic, however only the controls work on Rockbox (the Radio option never appears on the main menu). Is it expected to function on this device with the Rockbox firmware, or is that currently not possible?

There is currently no support for the FM remote on the ipod6g in Rockbox.

Gotcha, I figured as much. Are they any plans for support in the near future? I'm planning on upgrading the storage capacity of my current iPod, however it may be worth "downgrading" to the 5.5 with additional storage (and the better DAC) with support for the radio.

You could search and see if anyone had expressed an interest in it.  That is probably the closest you will find to plans for something.
