Sony NWZ-A10
« on: January 06, 2018, 05:53:22 PM »
Hello

I managed to get the rockbox test build working on my nwz-a10, the sdcard is working so there is plenty of storage which is great :)

When rockbox is running on the a10 is it independent of any of the settings in the Sony service menu?

My main reason for installing rockbox was to circumvent the volume limit in the sony firmware, at the moment when rockbox is running it isn't much louder than the OF, and it's definitely quieter than a ipod classic running rockbox and sounds a bit tinny, I realize it's a test build so there are bound to be issues

are there any settings I should be changing in rockbox to make the sound quality better and the volume louder? I noticed in the OF there are various settings that effect the volume like DSEE HX and dynamic normalizer

Hi,
Most aspects of Rockbox are completely independent of Sony's software. However the sound limitation is is controlled by Sony's software, so the destination tool https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SonyNWDestTool might have an effect, I suggest you have a try (try setting destination to U). Unfortunately, the Sony NW are known for being relatively "quiet" and this cannot be changed. Also note that almost all settings in the service menu are temporary and will not affect either Rockbox or Sony' software, you really need to use the destination tool (I think the only exception is bass and treble).

Hey, did you have to do anything special to get Rockbox working? I tried it on my A17 following these instructions:

https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SonyNWLinuxPort

As far as I can tell it installed fine, but when I try to boot Rockbox I just get a green message that says "Cannot boot Rockbox" and then it jumps back to the selection screen. From there I can boot the original firmware without issues, but Rockbox won't boot.
