iPod Mini 2g - lags/unresponsive when trying to play emulated music formats

Pretty much what it says in the title. The thing becomes completely unresponsive if I try to play emulated game music formats (especially sega genesis .vgm/.vgz) and that bothers me quite a lot.

Is there something I can do about this?

Do they work in the simulator? I've never tried genisis music so I can't give you more specific advice.
