Thanks. I'll load it, but since the glitch is random I may get a bad result immediately, otherwise go several days before I think it's solved. I'll post when it seems that I have a result.

Here is an older build that doesn't change the voltage:

Does it work better?

That sounds like a problem with your client.

Right. I have no idea why, but my standard Mozilla Firefox from the Ubuntu Artful distribution failed to download, but the Epiphany browser succeeded. I have the Rockbox version you pointed to running succesfully on the Sansa ClipZip. I'll report when it either glitches or goes a long time without glitch.

Thanks.

Older version 1015088 seems to fix Sansa Clip+ failure
« Reply #19 on: January 29, 2018, 04:12:30 PM »
  • I have been running version 1015088 provided by saratoga for two weeks and I have not caught any of the glitches that bothered me with stable release 3.14. I
  • I will try to reintroduce a personalized variant of the Cabbie theme that I was using before. I seems highly unlikely that UI customization through the *.cfg scripts would cause the glitches. I will surely post again if they reappear.
  • I wonder when/if I should try a subsequent stable release? I'll try to infer from the release notes, and I'll always keep more reliable backup versions, but advice would be helpful.
  • I recall seeing some discussion of a similar problem on a Sansa forum (but specifically referring to to Clip+ running Rockbox rather than native system). If I can find it again, I'll post a link to this thread. If the problem is more widespread, it might be worth moderating this discussion into a separate thread, and providing a clear stable link to the older version of Rockbox.

But mostly, thanks so much for the assistance.

Mike O'Donnell

P.S. I found the Sansa forum thread (http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/Sansa-Clip-Sansa-Clip/Random-track-skip-on-Rockbox/td-p/293401) and posted a reference to this one.

I think we will need more testing on devices that have stability problems at lower voltages. There is a test build here that allows tweaking the voltages:

http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,52058.0.html

That thread on the SanDisk forums is for a build 4 years older than the one you are currently running apparently without crashes, so it is definitely not the same issue.

Track skip glitch occurred again
« Reply #21 on: January 30, 2018, 03:05:15 PM »
  • Well, the day after I reported no glitches, I experienced two definite skips to the next track in the course of listening to one CD. These came in tracks with clearly defined endings, so I'm pretty confident that they skipped. The first time, I immediately replayed the track successfully to make sure there was no deterministic failure due to bad data in the file.
  • I just changed to a new customized theme in .rockbox/themes/Mycabbiev2.cfg and .rockbox/wps/Mycabbiev2.wps with some supporting image files. It seems highly unlikely that the changed UI (mainly the "Now Playing" display) would cause the glitches. The display was dark at the time of the track skips, in case that's relevant.
  • It is also possible that I failed to notice a glitch during the two weeks before I added the customized configuration. I often listen very casually to a wide variety of music, including some ambient tracks without crisp endings, and I doze off while listening.

I can't think of a systematic way to test for the apparently random glitches for an effort that I am willing and able to invest, but if someone has a good idea that's not too time consuming please suggest it. I have a rough impression that glitches did not occur when I first started using the new device last October and that they increased in frequency over time, but that's a very unreliable impression.

Cheers,

Mike O'Donnell

I have experienced glitching similar to what you describe with a Fuze, but that glitching was confined to files on the Fuze's onboard memory. It's possible your memory card and/or file system is corrupted.

Is this build still available? The link above is dead. I'm having the same problem with my Clip+ and would like to see if this build helps. Thanks.

That build is not still available, but the thread in my post just before this one has a build that will let you adjust voltages from the debug menu.  I think you can use that to do the same thing.

Is there a way to save the settings on the CPU frequency? Every time I turn it off/on they reset back to 0.
