iPod 5.5gen, Bad Checksum Error
(1/1)
BranMakMorn:
Today I tried to update rockbox on my 5.5 Gen iPod Video with an upgraded SSD. It's always been working fine, even since I changed the SSD, about a year ago.
After trying the update via the Utility, I now get this screen everytime I try rebooting the device: http://imgur.com/a/4L7yp
Can anyone help? I tried removing rockbox and reinstalling. Nothing. Still haven't tried restoring via iTunes and doing it all from scratch, but I'd rather not do that if possible...
Thanks!
saratoga:
That means the rockbox binary failed the bootloader checksum. Either its the wrong binary (wrong iPod version) or there is a problem with the ssd (less likely if it worked before).
BranMakMorn:
Well, I don't know what I'm doing wrong then because my ipod is most definitely an iPod video, and from the Utility I select "Ipod Video (5th Gen) (Stable)"... Where else could I be making mistakes?
EDIT: I just remembered something. I haven't really used it much in the last few months, but a couple of weeks back I took it out of my drawer and tried to listen to one song. I looked for the artist in the database and selected the song, but the iPod started reproducing another song (from another artist altogether). I shrugged it off as a mistake, and gave up. Could that be a sign that the SSD has issues? I thought that SSDs are not supposed to fail! It's got barely one year of life!
BranMakMorn:
New update: i tried everything I can think of, and then I gave up, installed iTunes, and went on with the restore. That doesn't work either!
Even after I restore, the iPod keeps just rebooting to that screen, and the rockbox folder and music files in it are not deleted.
What's going on? Is this a catastrophic SSD failure? Is it possible?
sunbro:
Maybe try reformatting the ssd itself? Or possibly try to reset the partitions? If reformatting doesn't word, resetting the partitions means you'll have to disconnect your ssd to do so and use a partition tool. I had a similar issue beforehand when restoring through itunes didn't work out for me on the SD card adapter and followed a guide that was on Tarkan's blog. I'm not too sure if it'll help you, but it's worth a try! Of course now, I have a battery charging issue with every battery I try... Anyhow, good luck!
