Data abort at 30801294 . . . Sandisk Sansa e260v2
« on: September 08, 2017, 10:32:58 PM »
Hi all,

Well - I thought the problem took care of itself and I asked the moderator(s) to remove my prior posting - I spoke too soon because the problem remains.

Prior to installing RB, I verified that I had the latest firmware version from Sandisk installed on my Sansa e260v2, version 03.01.16A  Then I downloaded the firmware file and updated again, just to be sure.

My brother has a Sansa e260v1 running RB and it works PERFECTLY.

I have a Sansa e260v2 and today, using the RB UTILITY, I installed version 3.14 without any error messages.

After installing 3.14, I modified all of my settings to the same settings in my brother's e260v1 player.

RB boots super fast and I can scroll and select all options I wish.  However, once I select a song to play - it plays - but as soon as I attempt to change the volume (using the thumb-wheel control as always) the song stops and RB gives me the following error code:

Data abort at 30801294
FSR 0x8
(domain 0, fault 8)
address 0x691789F4
pc:30901294 sp:300A9CF0
bt end

To ensure this is a RB problem, instead of booting to RB, I booted to Sandisk and the songs play fine and volume control via the thumb-wheel works perfectly throughout its' full range.

Thinking it may be a problem with the 3.14 version, I downloaded and installed the current DEV BUILD c6d5cd74a.

Unfortunately, the problem remains unchanged.

Thank you in advance for your support and suggestions.

Couple of things to try, (in order preferably)
1. does it still happen if you are at the main menu and change volume
2. does it happen in radio mode and or recording mode
3. if you change themes?
4. bring your cursor to main menu>files on the player long press select choose Show Files>All
hit back to Main Menu go to files and short press select navigate to the .rockbox folder and IMPORTANT rename config.cfg to config.old and restart the player Rename NOT Delete it just in case it is a configuration issue that way we can track it down

Unfortunately I don't have access to the build server so I can't look at the memory map for your build maybe someone else will chime in otherwise I can build you a custom build and we can go from there to track it down...

Thanks for your reply and suggestions, Bilgus.   ;D

1. in the main menu, thumb-wheel does not control volume - it controls screen scrolling   ;)
2. don't listen to radio mode - and do not use as a recording device . . . only use is as a player   ::)
3. still happens   :(
4. still happens   :(

It took a couple of days for my reply because, in addition to performing tests regarding your suggestions, I also completely removed RB and then reloaded SD software, then exectued a MANUAL INSTALL of RB 3.14 as detailed on Pages 16 and 17 of the Rockbox Manual for Sansa e200v2 Series . . . problem remains.   >:(

Does anyone know where I can obtain RB 3.13 (one of the last dev builds) for the Sansa e200v2 Series player?  I'd like to see if this PROBLEM is solely an RB 3.14 problem.   :D

Thanks,

Regarding # 2 . . .

After BOOTING to the MAIN MENU, when I select RESUME PLAYBACK and turn the thumb-wheel to adjust volume RB 3.14 immediately displays . . .

Data abort at 30801294
FSR 0x8
(domain 0, fault 8)
address 0x691789F4
pc:30901294 sp:300A9CF0
bt end

I could go ON and ON and ON regarding whatever it BOOTS to, once I turn the thumb-wheel to adjust volume RB 3.14 immediately displays . . .

Data abort at 30801294
FSR 0x8
(domain 0, fault 8)
address 0x691789F4
pc:30901294 sp:300A9CF0
bt end

Is there anyone that creates RB 3.14 code whom can READ and EVALUATE the above ERROR MESSAGE???

Thank you for the link to RB 3.13 . . . it will take some time to COMPLETELY REMOVE RB 3.14, reinstall a clean copy of SD, and then perform a clean MANUAL install of RB 3.13 . . . and then report my findings.  It will either be late this evening or on Monday.

Thank you for your support.

yeah Sorry I grabbed the wrong link http://download.rockbox.org/release/3.13/rockbox-sansae200v2-3.13.zip
or http://download.rockbox.org/release/ to look through all the old releases

regarding a dev build from prior to 3.14 there is no reason to bother I will make you a build to test with, although it will take a few times

So far so good, Bilgus!   ;D

As I did with RB 3.14, I am going to shutdown the e200v2 and let it sit for an hour or so - then power on and see what happens.   8)

That said, thus far, other than preferring EQ setting increments of 0.1 versus 0.5 (as is with this initial release of RB 3.13), all systems are a GO!!   ;D

At this point, how would you like to proceed with further analysis and testing?  I'm happy to play guinea pig - and I am equally interested in UPDATING the DEV BUILDS with RB 3.13 particularly if/when the BUILD improves FIDELITY.  Let me know.    ;)

Thanks again!   :)

ok here is the latest dev build compiled let me know what the data abort window has just like you did with the previous ones

http://www.mediafire.com/file/vprh3gin02lwz8j/SansaE_200v2_9-10-17_rockbox-full.zip

there isn't any need to shut it off for 60 minutes in between just a simple reboot will suffice

Understood.

To ensure I am on the same page - it seems odd to me that I have 3.13 installed
and I am updating with a DEV BUILD for 3.14 without ever installing RB 3.14 . . .

While I am clearly showing my ignorance, had this been (oh say) January 2017
where, hypothetically, I may have been running the RB 3.13 with the latest DEV
BUILD.  And after a few months of installing the latest DEV BUILDS, along comes
RB 3.14 . . . and like everyone else, I would have followed the instructions to
install 3.14 over 3.13 - instead of installing the next DEV BUILD (which would
have been a 3.14 DEV BUILD) over the existing/previous 3.13 DEV BUILD.  Not
sure my point is 100% clear, but I'm gonna run with it and see if you understand
my concern/point here.

BACK TO THE ANALYSIS
I did install SansaE_200v2_9-10-17 and, thus far, no problem with thumb-wheel
volume control.

GOOD WORK, Bilgus!!  BRAVO!!

What next?

Ok so same error# same address, pc, sp.

Again the latest dev build of 3.13 is 3.14 there is NO clear delineation besides doing a bisect to find what commit caused the error but first I need to figure out what is causing it.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/6wt5uo861i4u8q6/SansaE200v2_NO-lcd_bitmap_transparent_part_rockbox-full.zip

Try this build and see if the error goes away or is different.

Do note your screen may not update properly/look weird

if you still have the last build I sent installed you only need to copy rockbox.sansa to the .rockbox directory on your device

AFTER you try the above build try this one and see if the error is back and/or if it changes

Please note that I am not asking for the "latest dev build" but I am asking for a dev build prior to RB 3.14 (since the build associated with its' release appears to be the problem here) . . . where I can obtain one of the last dev builds for 3.13 and the Sansa e200v2 Series player - before RB 3.14 was released (let's say 2 months before)?

Will do . . . and, as noted above, please let me know where I can obtain one of the last dev builds for 3.13 and the Sansa e200v2 Series player - before RB 3.14 was released (let's say 2 months before)?

> Do note your screen may not update properly/look weird

Prior to installing the above BUILD, note that my LCD already FLICKERS BRIGHTLY and DOUBLE CLUTCHES upon startup of RB.

> if you still have the last build I sent installed you only need to copy rockbox.sansa to the .rockbox directory on your device.

I have already scrubbed that BUILD and re-installed RB 3.13 (which works).  Therefore I will install the full BUILD (noted above).

> you try the above build try this one and see if the error is back and/or if it changes

Will do.  Thanks again, Bilgus!!

your choices are 5 years ago Feb 27, 2012; or 7 months ago Feb 4, 2017, the second build in my last post is with the changes from 7 months ago reverted

I can't really revert the changes from 5 years ago as there is just too much on top of it but hopefully we can narrow down the issue.

Now granted where the error is occurring might not be where the error originates but we will see..

REPORTING BACK

Previously, I confirmed the thumb-wheel volume PROBLEM would occur independent of which THEME was in use.  I prefer using the THEME e200_Steel_2.0 and after installing "SansaE200v2_NO-lcd_bitmap_transparent_part_rockbox-full" the first things I notice include . . .

at startup / power on
LCD does not FLICKER, first RB screen appears, then a pause to a blank screen, and immediately into Now Playing (my preferred startup screen).  Note that in prior testing, the thumb-wheel volume PROBLEM occurred regardless of startup screen.

Now Playing
- graphic associated with volume (upper left hand corner) is gone, however, the dB (numeric) magnitude remains displayed
- graphic associated with battery (upper right hand corner) is gone, however, the battery (numeric) % charge and XXh and XXm magnitudes remain displayed
- when thumb-wheel is turned, Track and size disappear until I stop turning the wheel and then they reappear, AND ONLY the + and - signs shown when the wheel is in motion (no level info is displayed).

Main Menu
- all graphic icons are gone

AT THIS TIME RESOLVED
While there may be more graphic-related items missing, for now, the thumb-wheel volume PROBLEM has yet to occur.  Good work, Bilgus!

What's next?

'SansaE200v2_NO-lcd_bitmap_transparent_part_rockbox-full'
is just disabling the code where the error is happening.

Since the code in question has to deal with drawing transparent bitmaps
the screen disparities are to be expected.
But, since it doesn't crash that means that is the offending code.

Now on to the build with the last commit to that code reverted..
'SansaE200v2_-R_d787191_g1499_rockbox-full.zip'

With this build the bitmap code is back.

If it still crashes then we have to go further back, still need the contents of the error window though

If it doesn't crash its time to investigate what changed

Excellent analysis and troubleshooting, Bilgus!!

Excellent explanation as well.   :)

Will you be providing a link to download 'SansaE200v2_-R_d787191_g1499_rockbox-full.zip' with bitmap code back - for me to test?

BTW, it's a pleasure working with you.

Thanks again, Bilgus!!
