Which player can I buy now ?
« on: September 02, 2017, 10:36:10 AM »
Hi,

I like Rockbox, but my Sansa Clip+ just died.
And the Sansa Fuze is not anymore availaible.
Which MP3 player could I buy now, on which I can install Rockbox ? (not a too expensive one...)

Tanks for your help !

You could buy a Clip Zip:
http://shop.sandisk.com/store/sdiskus/en_US/pd/productID.310933700

Probably should order soon though, I bet the sell out shortly.

It is a little hard to find them as it doesn't let you navigate to them from their main store page. So you have to use the search bar. Weird? Yes, but it works several of us have gotten them delivered so far.

I re-posted below for you -- do note the link from saratoga is the only one still available
If you are in the US I'd suggest heading to http://shop.sandisk.com/store/sdiskus/search/keywords.clip%20zip and get a clip zip for $30 while they last and to boot
here is a 10% off coupon code too!  L642Z or  WELCOME10%

EDIT-------------------
Anyone who misses out on those there are still some Fuze+ left but they have a terrible touch keypad but its still better than the sport

Oh damn, looks like I came looking for another Clip Zip a few weeks too late!  (They are all sold out now)  Most of them on ebay and Amazon don't ship to New Zealand or are used or crazy prices.

Do Sandisk have them available from time to time, or was this just a once off?  Wan't to get another one as I know mine won't last forever!

I can get you one if you want.  ;)
Hit me with PM if interested.

Disclaimer - it's new, but will have some minor blemishes as it was on display

I am checking a local marketplace and ebay for sansa sandisk players. Most of them can run rockbox. I own a lot of them now and usually for a very descent price, because I already own spare devices I am not forced into buying one too expensive.

The e200's are my favourites due to the awesome battery life and able to replace it easily. Also own clips (+), fuze and c200 - just as useful but less long battery life.

Personally I don't mind to buy devices used even if they look battered. IMO Rockbox is all about functionality (eg. one of my e200's has a damaged display and still very usable due to spoken menu etc)

If I was looking for another e200 I would probably buy this one - good price and shipment not expensive as well (also to new zealand).

I'd like a player with the features and size of a Zip but the output power of an iPod for better bass. Damn shame a FiiO or Shanling won't cut the mustard.

i guess the clips DAC is not that good, ie not audiofile? noise floor?

i’ve got hifiman earbuds, with phones and a lot of consumer gear i hear a lawful noise floor. the dac in the zipit https://mozzwald.com/zipitz2 is quite good. my iaudio x5 is alright but gets nosey the more its turned up, near max is quite nosily. Still a lot lot better than my samsung i9100 phone.
Thanks

For it's size, price and intended use the Clip's are a miracle of technology. They just don't have a lot of umph if you know what I mean. The Shanling M1 sounds a bit better, is a lot sexier, costs about the same (Now!), has fewer features and can not be Rockboxed. Go figure. Rats!

So you are still stuck with the Clip Zip as the best choice at the moment.
