Rockbox won't boot on my Sansa Clip Zip

(1/1)

mtamborra:
I'm having major issues getting this to install on my Sansa Clip Zip.  I have tried the rockbox Utility and the manual install.

I can't use the manual install because I think the mkamboot files only works in 32 bit windows and all of my computers are windows 64 bit.

It detects the device and says the install is "successful" but then when I unplug the device it just says "refreshing media" and goes back to the regular sansa firmware as if nothing was installed at all.

Under the info tab in rockbox utility it says I have the following installed packages:

Bootloader  2011-12-20T13:56:17
Fonts
Rockbox (Base) 3.14

When I open the sansa in windows, these are the folders I see:

.Rockbox
Music
CLPZA.BIN

Some additional info:

when using the utility and installing the bootloader it said it needed firmware, which I got from here:

http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/Sansa-Clip-Zip/Sansa-Clip-Zip-Firmware-01-01-18/td-p/254122

not sure if this helps but on the sansa itself in system settings, the version of my sansa is V01.01.15A

I managed to get this app working on an old ipod and love it!  really want it on this device as well

Please help and advise if additional info is required

Quick Summary:

rockbox utility seems to work but the device itself won't boot into rockbox and acts as if its never installed

Can't dot he manual install because when I run the file it just opens up real quick and disappears (I think its cause i have windows 64 bit, not really sure though, but manual doesn't seem to be working)

I did lots of searching online before joining and posting this, so please be nice

Thanks!

If you installed a v18 firmware from rockbox utility, but your player still says v15, something went wrong. Usually it is either :

You selected the wrong disk and just copied the firmware to your hard drive or USB key, or

You have a different player than you think you do. You're sure it's a zip?

mtamborra:
I'm pretty sure it is a clip zip.  It looks just like this one:

I also just formatted it and when i plugged it back into the PC, a window appears saying sansa clip zip 4GB and then gives options to browse files, firmware updates, etc

saratoga:
That is definitely a Zip.  Check the drive letter, and if it still doesn't work, copy the install log from the utility and pastebin it (its usually too long to post directly into the forums).
