Dieselrags:
I misplaced my old iPod classic. looking to get a replacement probably another iPod. can anyone recommend the best generation to get if i plan on using rockbox?

RazviTm:
Gen3 has 1,3Vrms output, gen4,5,6 have 1V or lower, but 4 photo, 5 and 6 have colour screens.

rbhawaii:
get a ipod 5.5g with the fat back 80gb and put a 240gig zif hdd or 256gig ssd in it and use a modded 3.13 firmware and you will love it forever! if you get the ssd you can fit a 2000mah battery in it. this is the ultimate rb experience. here is the custom 3.13 firmware

also (have not tried this yet but will one day) you can get a 4x micro sd to zif adapter
and use that as your drive in the ipod. 400gb micro sd card came out so 400gbx4= 1.6 terabytes! and that is pretty sweet for a ipod with rockbox!

ROCKHD:
The best in my opinion is IPOD VIDEO 5.5 gen. model-MA450LL(BLACK) .WHITE # is different . 80GB has great Wolfson DAC chip WM8758BG Logic board 820-1975-A  64mb RAM   ending ser# V9R   on back 1136 .  Buy a couple spares, logic boards ,out production. You can have it custom made by Maplesyrup.webs.com   up to 1TB Solid state hard drive with rockbox installed.

Cool thanks. I had a 6th gen before, trying to get rockbox to work on it was a pain. Never worked properly. What makes the 5.5gen the best in your opinion? I would think the later generations would have more bells and whistles and RaM and whatnot.
