Android smartphone os

(1/1)

Mayday:
Would it be possible to make a version to replace the android smartphone os? So it's not a phone anymore it's just a mp3 player. I'm sure others much like myself have an old smartphone laying around at home. I have been looking everywhere to find a room to install on my phone to make it just a media player or mp3 player.  Some do exist but they require the phone to be rooted and or unlocked.  Rooting if free but unlocking... I mean I just keep hearing about half the time the code doesn't work. Or they cost a lot to aquire.

So that's my idea.
Is it possible?  Or do you already have a version that would do that.

PS sorry if this is in wrong section.

Yes it is possible to port Rockbox to a Android device as a firmware rather than an app.  Any ARM device with enough RAM can run rockbox, and Android devices have a lot of RAM compared to MP3 players.

There is not very much interest in doing this however because it would be an enormous amount of work, and rockbox has only incomplete support for touchscreen devices.
