Please send me your Nano firmware
« on: July 08, 2006, 09:11:06 AM »
I've updated my Nano firmware using Apple's FW-utility.
Now my computer can't see my iPod.

So please make a backup of your working iPod firmware (better without Rockbox loader, i'll make it myself). I need it. Thank you.
Send it to dimonina [at] gmail [dot] com

I don't think we're technically allowed to share Apple's firmware (hides under desk to escape people throwing stuff). That being said, how do you plan to flash the firmware while your computer cannot see the iPod at all? Does the iPod boot? Can you manipulate it into disk mode (hold center button and "menu" button for a few seconds until you see Apple's logo, then quickly switch to holding the center button and the "play/pause" button)? As far as I know, a different firmware won't help you if your iPod won't show up in Windows Explorer or My Computer. (you are running Windows, aren't you?)

If you can get it into disk mode, try Apple's firmware utility again. Do a full restore. If you get it to the point where the Rockbox install tools work, Apple's updater utility should work.

Good luck,
JBot

PS. if you explain why you need my firmware--the Apple updater won't work at all, but the Rockbox patch utilities do--I am willing to share. I am not just going to default to that, though.

Tried iPodLinux, didn't like it because it wiped out my songs, heard about RB from a friend and I love it!

You can also use the iPodWizard too to extract a copy from the Apple Updater, without having to run it on an iPod.

I hate to threadjack, but how do I go about doing this? The tutorial on the wiki wasn't helpful at all, as it didn't tell me which firmware to extract, and how...I could do this, but I'm a little afraid of botching the bootloader.

Ipodwizard isn't our software, so while I told you it can be used, I honestly have no clue. I'd suggest asking in their forums.

Are you still working on this? cuz if you are, I can help you with the use of iPodWizard to extract the firmware....otherwise, I guess I could email it to you, because it's just a simple file...
