clip zip pitch wavering on version 3.14

(1/2) > >>

roland106:
Hello, I have been having a problem with the pitch on my clip zip going up and down by small but very noticable amounts since I upgraded to version 3.14. It sounds as if someone were twisting a pitch knob up and down very slightly constantly during song playback.

When I boot into the default sandisk firmware and play a song, the problem does NOT occur.

When using rockbox, the problem occurs with songs on both the internal hard drive and on the sd card.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling version 3.14, but this does not solve the problem. I have also investigated the sound settings, but none of them had any effect on the issue. The problem occurs with the default sound settings.

The problem did not occur with version 3.13, which I had been using up until a few days ago.

Thanks for any ideas you have, I really appreciate it.

You're the first person to report this problem.  It is probably due to a combination of some problem with your hardware and any of a huge number of things changed between 3.13 and 3.14.

Here are two old builds that I saved:

http://web.mit.edu/mgg6/www/rockbox-clipzip-3f54101.7z
http://web.mit.edu/mgg6/www/rockbox-clipzip-1015088.7z

Do either of them not have the problem?

Tried the first one and it works, problem is gone.

Thanks very much for your help, I appreciate it.

I've had a similar issue on my Sansa Clip Zip with 3.14, and not with the 3f54101 build.

In my case, the problem is a some noise/static followed by a short period of pitch/tempo change (sounded as if the audio was sped up 2x). Combined it's roughly a total of 0.5s of distortion, which happens every 3 seconds.

It's probably related to voltage scaling as sometimes there's display glitches (part of screen becomes garbled) that seems to be synchronized with the audio issue.

With latest dev version, my device has the same issue and it is a lot more unstable than 3.14. It can hardly operate for more than a couple minutes after booting and there's a pretty high chance it would hang during boot. I've seen the "data abort" error, hangs where the screen freezes up, and hangs where the screen turns all white.

Clip Zip build with configurable powersaving options..

If voltage scaling doesn't work for your use case maybe you can save power with one or all of the other options
