Sansa Clip+ problem with 128GB SD Card using ver 3.14
« on: May 27, 2017, 09:14:05 AM »
Hi, with version 3.13 I have zero problems using my G.Skill 128GB microSDXC, but with 3.14 I can only play music for a bit until the music clatters due to being unable to read the sd card. Removing and re-inserting the sd card will let me play a song again temporarily. I experienced this problem with development builds I've tried prior to 3.14 as well. Can this be fixed?

Yes it can be fixed.

What was the last build that worked?

3.13 works. A few development builds that I tried the past year or so didn't work for me so I stuck with 3.13.

That's about 4 years worth of changes. I can throw up some random builds for you to try, but it'd be helpful if you could let me know the first that didn't work.

Here is a random build you can try:

web.mit.edu/mgg6/www/rockbox-fef736be4ab1c2df33d15715badd6b5ff04c2285.7z

It's before a lot of the SD fixes and voltage stuff went in. If it works that narrows things down.

Using that build, about 15 minutes in and it is working so far. I'll let you know if anything changes.

I'm on airplane now, but if that keeps working I'll post a newer build and see if we can narrow down when the problem crept in.

That build seems stable, so I am ready for the next build to try.

here is a slightly newer build (has frequency scaling enabled):

Upon first reboot that one played fine, but when I shut down the Clip and turned it back on the sd card disappeared. I went back to the previous version and the card worked again.

To make sure this was repeatable I tried the newer build once more which ended up with some similar results. <microSD1> was visible, but completely empty.  Rebooted and the card could be read, although it only played a song for less than a second before that clatter noise began.

Great, then we are getting somewhere.  Here is the above but with one less change to the SD card:

web.mit.edu/mgg6/www/rockbox-3f54101858210c921e6d0039f29f649459a9a1a9v2.7z

Let me know if it works.

Yes, it works. Rebooted a few times and it doesn't drop the sd card.

Here is the current build but with the change to SD removed:

web.mit.edu/mgg6/www/rockbox-clip+-morevdd2.7z

If this works, I'll want to try one more test, and then I can commit it to the main git code, in which case all builds going forward should work for you.  If it doesn't work I may have missed something.
