IPOD 6th Gen connection to Audi

Hi all,
Got an odd problem - someone may be able to help with.

Connecting my IPOD to my Audio in car system via the MI IPOD cable.  I can get audio out if controled on the IPOD but I cannot control the IPOD via the in car interface.  Anynone come across this before?

Any fixes?

About ten years ago Apple changed it so that devices that wanted to control the iPod have to cryptographically verify that the device they're talking to is an ipod, probably to prevent companies from supporting android devices as well.  Its possible someone might figure out how to bypass that encryption, but its not likely to happen soon.

Thanks for the reply - the odd thing is I could control the IPOD before I rockboxed it.  It there a setting I'm missing?

How is that odd? You're running entirely different firmware now, with different features.

Odd because if Cryptography on the device was the issue, it wouldn't have worked prior to the firmware change.

The apple firmware has the cryptographic keys, so it can talk to other devices with apple firmware.  No one else has the key, so 3rd party firmware can't.

Ah I see - I thought it would have been hardware based, not firmware.  Thanks for clarifying
