Permission denied means that the installer didn't have permission from the OS to install. On windows this means you need to run as administrator, and on Linux as root or Sudo. I'm not sure what the OSX equivalent is however. Maybe sudo?

Hi Saratoga,

I was on the phone with Apple tech support and we tried to resolve this issue with my logging on as 'root' user. Unfortunately, we could not get it to install. However, we were able to install the main rock box firmware and fonts. We just could not get it to install the boot loader?

I only sought the help of Apple tech support as I am not really a tech person and he was able to talk/remote sync with my MacBook. He did say that if I get any replies as to how to install the boot loader he would be more than happy to help me....

Fingers crossed Someone has had this issue and will be able to post instructions on what I/we need to do.....lol

Regards,

David

You should describe what you tried and what happened in a little more detail.

Finally saw a post where another member had my problem installing Rockbox. I noted he was advised to install the Rockbox software using a Windows machine but FIRSTLY restoring the iPod using iTunes on said Windows machine. I followed what they did and it took...........30 seconds after restoring the iPod using Windows!!! As I have previously mentioned, I am not a tech person and on reading some of the more technical posts get very confused to say the least, especially when acronyms are used.

I am at this moment in time adding my music files and have tested a few before trying to transfer most of my music library. I am hoping that I can adjust the font on the iPod to a larger size as my eyes are struggling to read some of the information on the tiny screen...lol

Thanks to everyone who has been patient and posted replies to help me. I am hoping to make full use of this software once I get to grips with it.

Hi ALL!

I'm back after finally sorting through what music I wanted on my iPod (did not test any of the music files added.....) I just plugged in my headphones and pressed play and.... the selected song plays (all music in FLAC format) but after exactly 5 seconds it skips to the next track and does it with every song in my music folder/s?

I have also had a look at my database and it says 'Database is not ready Initialize now

Yes
No

I have not touched this yet as not sure if I should....?
My files play on my MacBook when the iPod is connected and it sees it as a hard drive (iPod not in Disk mode)

I connected my iPod in the first instance without being in disk mode and created a folder called MUSIC which I dragged and dropped into all the music I wanted. I tested the music files after they had been copied whilst still connected to the MacBook and they all played fine using VOX.

I have the Rockbox build 3.13 as this was stable and was automatically chosen before install using a Windows pc.

I will try to delete ALL music in said MUSIC folder and re-add the music files once again but wonder if I am making a mistake using this process?

(By the way my music never sounded so good albeit for 5 seconds but hopefully once the above is resolved I will never go back to using anything else for my music!!)

Thanks in advance for any help and assistance with the above. (I do feel very uncomfortable when posting my problems on here as my knowledge is non-existent when it comes to things like this but hope to remedy this the more I use my particular brand of player.....LOL

ATB!

David
