Player in automobile mode often (not always) starts up OEM firmware, not rockbox
« on: February 15, 2017, 06:26:27 PM »
Hey rockboxers, I have several Sandisk Sansa players, but currently I'm going with my Fuze v2. I have the automobile mode turned on so it'll pause when I park the car and, one hopes, restart when I come back.

Sometimes when I come back I find that it  has booted up the original Sandisk firmware. then I have to disconnect the usb/data cable, power it down, turn it back on to boot rockbox then reconnect it.

Other times it comes up in rockbox when I come back to the car. The length of time the car was parked isn't obviously a factor... sometimes short stops come back up in Sandisk firmware, sometimes long stops remain in Rockbox. Sometimes its the other way around.

I'm using a new car->usb power adapter that seems to be solid (it replaces one that was intermittent), so I don't expect that to be dropping power on me.

the player currently is using 3.13, though I'm about to try a nightly build to see if it makes any difference.

I welcome all (reasonable) suggestions. thanks in advance!

The decision to boot into the OF is made by a few bytes of code that is patched into the OF. If you have patched with rockbox utility in the last 5 or so years, it checks if a button is pressed, and if not boots rockbox.  Did you patch your player a really long time ago?

I installed, originally, with the rockbox utility,... does that do the trick?

At some point I had installed 3.13 over whatever version was originally installed. I probably installed that with rockbox utility, but can't say I remember.

were I to install again over the top of what I have, might that ensure the right patch gets installed?

You would need to use Rockbox Utility to install again the BOOTLOADER, not the firmware to achieve what Saratoga described.

While in the process, you should also upgrade the firmware, i.e. Rockbox from 3.13 to the development version.

Not sure how to interpret that answer. The version of the tools that always boot rockbox was released in early 2012. If you installed before then, update your bootloader. If you installed more recently it's probably just something wrong with the buttons on your player glitching during boot.
