Fully Functioning New Android Port
« on: January 28, 2017, 11:59:02 PM »
Hello,

I have scoured these forums and I have come to the conclusion that the only way for Rockbox to have a plausible future would be for us to develop a new Rockbox android app that uses a java based android user interface, while relying on Rockbox for all the music, and playback functionality through the use of a native library. I am a Java developer that is willing to work on the Java UI front, however I have very little experience with c/c++ and therefore would require some other developers from these spectrums to help get the  native library up and running, since Rockboxes code is overall very well designed and in a relative sense portable, I can't imagine that it would be such a huge deal to get the native library going, and from there I can pick up on the UI aspect from a java perspective.

Anyone who's willing to work on this I welcome you to respond to this post

Sincerely,
Jack

Rockbox app with ART compatibility was out there a long time ago, but it is developed by a user in Rockbox Chinese community. The download process required a good Chinese reading ability, so it is almost impossible for a non-Chinese person to find it out. I only distributed it by extracted it, set the default language to English, did some translating jobs on the file name, made a instruction file then recompressed it. The app and additional files belong to the author "迈戈" from Rockbox Chinese community.
Original post in Rockbox Chinese community:

If you encounter any problem, please use Google Translate to view the original post in Rockbox Chinese community. Oh... and don't thank me! (^o^)

I gave that version a try! But unfortunatly as best I could find (I don't understand chinese at all!) the last version dates from 2016 as far as I can tell. And it appears to be very buggy -- touching the phone screen to select something for example ends up confusing it after only a short amount of time causing it to jump between two states (eg two different menu options).

An Android port would especially be interesting for Android based players such as the FIIO X5 3rd Gen and the FIIO X7 2nd Gen.
