Clip Zip vs. Clip+ / supported formats, known issues
asymsucon:
Hi,
sorry about slightly broader topic brought up in a single thread.
I'm looking for a rockboxed player to replace Panasonic discman, and it seems Clip+ and Clip Zip are the best alternatives.
But there are few things I prefer to know before making the final purchase.
Are there any differences in hardware between Clip+ and Zip, aside from miniUSB on + and microUSB on Zip and screen?
How well they handle Opus in current versions?
How well they handle non-protected AAC-LC with True VBR (encoded through qaac) in current versions? Quite well
How bad is the CPU/NAND chirping in sensitive headphones (32Ohm, 112dB/mW). Would -10dB pad help a bit?
Is 48kHz (16/48) natively supported? Yes
What's the maximum quality for voice recording? Seems to be PCM 48/16
Does the 8000 tracks limit affect playback through folders? I don't need to build any database, just the basic "play through folders". No limit
Non-distorted sine amplitude for unloaded headphone out (in Vrms/Vp-p)? Expected to be around 600mVrms
Thanks a lot!

They're exactly the same devices aside from the screen, buttons, radio chip and usb connector.
48 kHz is supported. There is no track limit.

Thanks for reply.
About Opus - does Clip+ play and correctly seek opus files, encoded with VBR and max. complexity?
Here's an example (gapless, 160kbps VBR, comp=10):

Win32 simulator refuses to process any sort of opus.
Test on a real device would be highly appreciated. ;)

Works fine on my Clip+.

Thanks for the test! 8)
The reason I mentioned seeking is this: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=50848.0
For the record, are you running 16e22b5 ?
