256GB SSD +2000mah Battery Ipod Classic 5th gen/Pioneer touch screen
« on: October 24, 2016, 12:04:55 AM »
Got a question, recently bought a 256GB SSD +2000mah Battery Ipod Classic 5th generation. It won't sync my songs once I get to a certain number of songs, which I know understand apple sets a limit to AMOUNT of songs. So I read about Rock Box and downloaded that. But the problem with that is when I go to play in on my Pioneer AVH-P6300BT it doesn't recognize it. I need something (like a Rock Box) that will allow me to use 68GB extra that I bought for more songs but will play/function with the ipod functions of a Pioneer touch screen audio head. Or know how to get my pioneer to read it. Anymore have any suggestions?

If that device requires the Apple firmware to run, then you'll have to use the Apple firmware.  This isn't something you can change.

My understanding is that iTunes supports up to 20,000 tracks on 30Gb models, and 50,000 tracks for 60 and 80Gb models (Gen5 and Gen 5.5).  Are you in need of even more than that? I know the Gen 6, 6.5, and 7 (120Gb) iPods only recognize up to 128Gb but will allow 50,000 tracks in that amount of space, and the Gen 7.5 (160Gb) will do 50,000 tracks but with no known limit on size, like the Gen 5 and 5.5.  I use .wav files so my track count in 256Gb is around 6,000 tracks.

The track limit isn't as clear as that, though, it depends what size your track database happens to end up being, and that's kind-of variable.  I think its been found that problems can occur significantly before 20,000 or 50,000 tracks.

if you install this older custom rb build your ssd hdd will work perfectly in rockbox mode
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=42586.15
but rb will not change/touch your original ipod os mode.
and your rb 5.5 ipod may never be controlled by your car stereo because the devs wont make it work for you.  they will tell you to learn to code yourself and make it work yourself.
so your best bet is to ... install correct version of rb so your drive fully works in rb mode... connect head phone jack on ipod to aux in on car stereo... and enjoy the amazingness that rockbox is

was it hard to put a 256gb ssd in a ipod 5th gen? That's a lot of music I could listen to.

it was not hard to install the same as any other 1.8"zif hard drive. i bought this one
https://www.amazon.com/Zheino-40Pins-256GB-MacBook-Rev-A1237/dp/B00W1F0Y9E
have used it every day for one year now - works great

this cheaper one did NOT work, had to return it

If you want to install a 2000mah battery plus the ssd you need a fat ipod like the 60gb or 80gb model. The 30gb model will not fit
