I had to buy some new mp3 players. My first SanDisk Clip + is about 5 years old and has been through a lot in it's life time. My second SanDisk Clip + was bought sometime last winter... And for some reason it died on me. Just something inside won't allow it to play mp3s properly and I haven't got a clue what the issue could be. I know SanDisk has discontinued it. I tried to do some research and find an alternative. One of the tricks is, I run linux, that makes me scared of buying an Ipod that uses Itunes. Also most Ipods does not have the disk place for all the music I put on a player.
My SanDisk Clip + couldn't keep track of music beyond 6,000 songs. Even though the 32 gig card could hold that many. It was suggested to me to install rockbox.
Rock Box has it's bugs.... But it did solve my song number problem.
I tried to do some research that went on for around a week or so, and I finally decided to buy the SanDisk Clip Jam. Since I already knew that RockBox couldn't be installed on it, I decided to buy 4 of them. I'm not pleased with them. I suggest that nobody buy this player. As far as I can tell from just testing two of them, everyone of them gets the meta data wrong.
Sometimes even when you research something, it's really hard to pin point who is posting right and who is posting wrong. Apparently the people who speak negatively of this player is the right ones.
I know that rockbox is an open source project. I was wondering if I could get in contact with the author of rockbox. And If I could mail him or her a player... Maybe they could take it apart and see if there is a way of writing a rockbox program for it? I would even be willing to send them two players if that was necessary for testing.
