Regarding your problem, USB is not very stable for some people in the old builds. You can reboot into the Sandisk firmware, check the disk for errors, and then put a newer build onto it.

Yeah, the problem turned out to be that lack of space (only a few mb remaining) for building the music db isn't handled very gracefully - it just locks up on the boot screen. Maybe worth reporting that to the devs.

Edit: lol, didn't notice you're one of the devs :D
