Error Message Since Accidental Unplug While Transferring Files on ClipZip
« on: August 27, 2016, 05:55:38 AM »
Hullo,

Initially I got a white error screen and every time I touched the power button it would restart itself, briefly display the rockbox logo before this error message. The only way I could turn it off was to hold the power button for 30 seconds. When I started it back up after the 30 seconds it just went back to that white screen. I let the battery run out, plugged the clipzip into a power source and turned on, and it seemed to be back in working order. Unfortunately after some more file transfer it threw the message back up.

While it displays the error message it's impossible to mount the device. Fortunately draining the battery there was a little window where rockbox would actually boot for just a couple of seconds before displaying the error. I was able to reinstall the software on the device and restart it, but this hasn't had any effect and I'm seemingly stuck with this problem.

Any suggestions on how to move forward? I'm out of ideas.

This is the error messages I receive, I don't know if it means anything, but Google doesn't help:

I suspect the filesystem is probably corrupted.

First put the player in bootloader USB mode. To do this, when it's off, plug it in while holding the Select (middle) button. I suspect this will also work if you let it reboot from the error screen while it's already connected, but I'm not sure. Worst case you'd have to have it reset by touching power to get it to reset and then quickly press select and plug it in.

After that, either check the filesystem for errors (on linux you do this by running fsck.vfat /dev/sd<your-device>, I don't know about other systems) or reformat it (remember to use FAT32) and reinstall rockbox.

Thank You, it seems just holding the middle / select button down sorted it somehow. What a relief  :)

This problem crept back up so I attempted to uninstall the bootloader and resintall everything, but got an error saying rockbox couldn't do uninstall the bootloader and to try updating the firmware. It seemed a bit too elaborate for my liking, so I took what I thought could be a risk, deleted all the clipzip files manually through 'my computer' (win 7) and then used the rockbox utility to just reinstall rockbox again. Piece of cake right?

Works great so far  :)

Edit: Problem came back but I isolated it to a faulty micro SD card. I bought a cheap thing off ebay and it seems like a case of 'you get what you pay for'.
