So what goes wrong, exactly?

Just connect ipod, wait for PC to see it, unzip new rockbox version over the old one, then reboot iPod.

OR...

Connect...put ipod in DFU mode...start iTunes...wait...tell iTunes to restore.  Then go through the usual Rockbox install procedure from the beginning.

At what point does it go awry?

Also - how was Rockbox installed in the first place?  Dual boot or Emcore method?  And what method are you using now?

This post is a little old, hijacking it.

Basically similar to above, I had Rockbox about 8 years ago, didn't like it, somehow got rid.

Want to install again (on iflash), and the rockbox utility says 'Do not need to install bootloader'.

A tentative look show suggestions of using emcore at boot up, but no such option is available. Am a bit stuck... how do i fully remove the old bootloader?

Thanks Much.

There is a good chance your iflash adapter won't work reliably with rockbox though.

Hey, thanks for a quick response, I was skeptical, but tried the installer, and, it worked!
Thanks very much. Still waiting for completion, but am past the previous problem.
