Installing Rockbox on an iPod classic with a 512 GB SSD installed.
rippley5150:
Hello
I purchased an iPod classic 6G with a 512 GB SSD installed.
I've tried using various installation methods. Windows 7, Windows 7 via Virtualbox and Linux. I've tried using the instructions from emCORE but that doesn't seem to want to work. I just tried installing emCORE again and the screen just turned a beige colour. Had to restore using iTunes.
I used the installation files from this site, both the stable and the beta version. https://files.freemyipod.org/~user890104/bootloader-ipodclassic.html
The installation goes well until the status bar reaches 99% then it tells me that the iPod couldn't be mounted. After ejecting the iPod I have to restore using iTunes as I get the big red x.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

SSD-modded devices often don't work well or at all with rockbox.
If your SSD or adapter came with a recommended build of rockbox, you should use that one rather than the current beta bootloader.

Thanks for the info Saratoga.
I guess I'll have to try and get in touch with the people I bought the iPod from.
Why doesn't Rock box play well with SSDs ?
saratoga:
Disk driver isn't made for SSDs.
rippley5150:
How hard would it be to make the disk driver work with an SSD ?
