Unable to play files
« on: June 23, 2016, 12:33:59 AM »
So I was listening to my Sansa Fuze+ today. I always listen to albums stored in folders, following the good-working structure Music>Artist>Album.

I downloaded this album (Fall Out Boy's Folie รก Deux) around 2009 and had never put it in an mp3 player, until the Fuze+, of course. So I decided I wanted to listen to it today and started with a hidden track which I downloaded from another site, but as soon as the next track started, it skipped all its way to the next folder. I thought I had hit the random button (as it sometimes, very seldom happens) so I unlocked the player and hit the Back button. It skipped away and so I decided to listen to another record.

This has never happened to me in all the years I've been using Rockbox (~2013). Well, it did happen with the 160G iPod Classic I used to have, but I'm pretty sure it had a faulty Hard Drive (one of the reasons I decided to sell it). Now that I think about it, could it be that the microSD card inside the Fuze+ is dying? (Yes, the first tune it skipped plays fine on my Computer).

All in all, I think this is pretty weird. I'm not sure if I can upload one of the tunes because of legal reasons and uploading a snippet would be useless. Has this ever happened to you? If this is a glitch that happens very rarely I don't mind converting the files again. After all, all the others 2k songs play fine, as far as I've tested them.

I have Sansa Fuze+ and do not have such problem...

Maybe the memory card is corrupted. Or I am not sure, what RB does with mp3 files protected by DRM (You did not mention, what kind of mp3 it is). Also you mentioned, that before that you played a hidden file. Again, I am not sure, how RB handles this...

So, try to copy the folder to a different place in folder structure. The best would be try it on different card or on inner Sansa memory. And also check if the mp3s in question are protected by DRM or not (I do not know if DRM might be a source of your problems, but generally it often may be a source of problems ...).

And also, as Saratoga asks, your music file format is not supported by RB.... (I expected it is, mp3, but you do not mention, what kind of files do not play. )

This is the information displayed on MediaInfo (of the first track)

As I said, the file plays fine on my computer. I also checked if it was hidden and it wasn't, only the "File" (Archivo in Spanish) box is selected. Don't know if it's DRM-related, but if it plays on the computer, it shouldn't be? (I used to play the file with Foobar2000 when I first downloaded it and tested it with MPC-HC yesterday).

I'll definitely try with my other Sansas. If it doesn't work on them either, I'll post a link to the file.

Thanks for replying, guys!

Check that the copy on the device didn't get corrupted while copying it over.

Just tested the same files on the Fuze. Still not working. Most likely the files are corrupted? Once again, the files play fine on my computer, and usually it was the other way around (once Foobar2000 couldn't play a file that Rockbox played without problems, albeit I acknowledge that one file had glitches).

Anyway, I'll just redownload the album again and put a fresh copy into the Fuze+

hinafu: Can you try rename first track to 1.mp3 and move this file at root of disk (without folders)? Possible file name (or path) have some special symbol.

I renamed the file within Rockbox and still couldn't play it. Doubt is the folder name since I could play the first track (the one that came in another batch). I haven't replaced them yet, but I guess that's my only option now. Still, I'd love to share the files in case someone wants to check what's going on with them.
