Thanks monoid. This is exactly what I'm looking for. Currently using *.cue files at the moment but from what I've read from the manual (see comment below) this may be an even better option.

"The contents of a cuesheet file can also be embedded within the metadata of an audio
file. There is currently support for the FLAC tag/ Vorbis comment CUESHEET or the
ID3v2 TXXX CUESHEET tag."

Not really sure what this means but sounds like this info can be embedded within the file itself. Anyone with experience of this setup, please feel free to advise.
