iPod Nano 2g Opus Playback
« on: May 22, 2016, 09:23:19 AM »
Hi, considering http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/ReleaseNotes313
"Unfortunately we've had to drop the Ipod Nano 2g
from the list for now due to serious issues with USB.
We hope to add it in a later release"

I still use 3.10 which is stable but there's no opus support in it, and i need it.

Is it possible to add the opus decoding somehow to this legacy build?
I have tried to copy just opus.codec but to no avail of course.

Not without a lot of programming I think given how old 3.10 is.

Are the current development builds unstable on the Nano 2G?

I think so. Haven't tried the latest dev build but.
The last time i tried it  a while ago, 3.11 or 3.12 it was i guess
it crashed and wiped all nand if i recall it right.

The issue with the 2g was USB related, not Nand.

"After an unclean shutdown (menu+select reset or a crash), it may sometimes lose all contents on the data flash.
This seems to have been resolved, but we aren't sure yet."

Check the date on that. The build you're running is already much newer.

Have installed the latest dev build on my device.
https://share.riseup.net/#kYVCVZNP_Ux88V6UE5r_8w

Haven't had dreadful storage issues so far, thanks heaven.
Even the iLike theme works (the only one that i need) which is surprising,
considering that it is gone from the themes.rockbox.org for some unknown reason.

Now i can test the portable transparency of the famous opus codec.
Because the original nano 2g model has only 2gb which is not much these days.
And vorbis under 100kbps even with the latest aoTuv intergrated q-1 q0 q-2 is kinda distorted.

Yeah the usb iface is helluva broken(
Random freezes all sort of errors during file transfering and or charging.
Can't wrap my head around how this even possible.
The 3.10 usb code was stable  but now it isn't.
Can't you sort of retrace it back or something.
How is this possible. What happened?

Discussed this morning:

http://www.rockbox.org/irc/log-20160526#12:10:35

The problem with USB was related to a CPU instruction that was not implemented in the particular processor, causing data to be corrupted if it was accessed too quickly by another thread during USB transfer.

iLike Author here, it was removed on my own volition after I got some morals and realized that even if I wasn't dumping their art from their firmware images and using it directly, recreating pixel-perfect replicas of said art was just as dirty, and legally and morally questionable.

Your enthusiasm for this theme is appreciated, however it will not be reappearing at any stage in the future.

Is very squarely in the "resolved" basket.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.
