Sansa Clip Zip: Divide by zero 30083C6C when building database
« on: May 15, 2016, 03:15:15 PM »
Sansa Clip Zip
Rockbox Development Version Revision 187cd12

While trying to initialize the database, during Building Database, player throws a "Divide by Zero" error, 30083C6.  This does not occur with stable version.   Other than that, everything seems OK.

FYI:  I tried the development version because in the stable version, Key Lock does not work for FM Radio.  In this development version, it does.

Replying to note that I see exactly the same error with a Sansa Clip +, also with the current dev release, including precisely the same number reported.

This is booting the Clip + without any attached sdcard media, so it's just reading its internal storage.

I note that the firmware was installed manually, from an OSX system. Since others apparently don't see the same crash on database build, I wonder if this is specific to OSX (OSX does write some other files to any mounted filesystem which it uses to track stuff... I wonder if these are causing issues with the database build process?)

And, having just tested this by limiting the database to only consider files in the "standard", non-hidden directories in the root filesystem, it seems to work.

So, I suspect that the issue is hidden directories containing files (maybe empty files?) which confuse the database code. Limiting explicitly to the MUSIC etc directories works perfectly.

Not sure what you mean by "standard" directories.

I would guess you mean the directories that are created by default when the original firmware boots that Rockbox doesn't even slightly care about existing and in and of themselves have nothing to do with Rockbox at all.

As for hidden directories, we provide precisely one, the actual root directory of the Rockbox installation itself located at /.rockbox and the manual is very clear about not putting user files therein.

I suspect you need to clarify what it is you are doing, and where you're actually putting your media.

Edit: re-reading your posts it isn't clear to me if there was any causality that lead to the conclusion regarding hidden directories or if you just decided that was the problem. More details required.

If you can replicate this issue please generate a database init log from the debug menu.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.
