This probably relates to General Settings>Display>LCD Settings>Touchscreen Settings>Touchscreen Mode.

You get all the options in 3x3 Grid mode, but lose being able to press menu items etc.

For people like me with big fingers, 3x3 is much more usable.

Thanks very much Nick.  Not sure I understand when you say you lose the ability to select Menu items in 3X3.

In "Absolute Point" mode you can select individual items on the screen much like a smartphone etc.

In 3x3 grid mode the sections of the screen behave more like cursor buttons;
