Clip Zip freeze at boot
« on: April 05, 2016, 08:00:01 AM »
my Clip Zip freezes at "boot 4.0" in rockbox, and shows green screen when trying to load OF. I cant connect to pc, cause neither of the firmwares (not the sansa, nor the rockbox) boot up. what can I do?

Clip zip, 4GB internal, tried anything with and without mSD card.

when powering it like normally, it just shows the "boot 4.0" with RockBox logo on the top of the screen, and stucks there forever. when holding the left while powering it up, it just colors my screen in green andstucks there forever... what should I do?

when I say "forever" it means as much time as it takes it's battery to empty, or untill I hold power button for about 30 seconds, which's annoying.....

Try powering off the player, holding the left center key and then plugging it into USB. If that gets you into USB mode you can try formatting the disk.

I'm now at school, and the sansa isn't with me, but AFAIK it doesn't work. I think, that if it cant go into the OF from the "normal powerup" (using left) it wouldn't do it by powering it by other way... do you really think it can help?

Sorry, I meant center button, not left.  The goal is to use the bootloader USB mode.

OK so I've done what ya said- connected it to USB when it was powered off while holding center button (select button)
now the clip zip still shows it's "Boot 4.0" screen as before
when going to "computer" in my windows laptop I cant see it
in device manager it shows "rockbox internal storage" under "disk drives", "E:\" under "portable devices", and "USB Mass Storage Device" under the "USB controllers". when I manually write "E:\" in the adress bar of file explorer and press enter, it shows an empty folder, and when I right- click on "removable device" (which apeared now on the left of the screen) and choose properties, it shows that it has 0 byte capacity, and I cant format it, 'cause it does nothing when I click on "format"... what can I do?

EDIT: it does the same as above when connected without holding the center button

Probably you should try connect player to another computer (or another OS). If you can - try connect it to computer with linux.

You should check which disk size you see.
If you small drive (4 or 30mb) - your player partially bricked (http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/Main/SansaAMS#Unbricking).

AFAIK no one before don't see disk size 0. Probably your system don't recognize it. In this case - try boot live cd/dvd/usb with linux: it provide more info and have less problems with rockbox.
