Brand New ZIP CLIP, looking to install largest possible SD Micro, recommendation
(1/1)

Hi All!
I just rockbox my new zip clip I nabbed on eBay. I was going to see if anyone had success with little to no issues with a large 128gb card for the zip clip and if you could recommend the brand?
I have been searching for quite awhile, but finding a lot of 2012 threads talking about possibly new technologies, and was hoping I could find someone that has resolved most of the issues with the bigger card.
I'm aware that you need to reformat it to FAT32

Hello,
I can confirm that a 128GB-SDXC card will work on a Clip Zip without any problems as I had one until a truck killed my Sansa. Now I'm using this same card in an used-bought YPR0 (again without any issues). It's a SanDisk Ultra Micro SD XC I class 10 (the black one with red letters on it).
The card is exFAT-formatted (not FAT32).
I couldn't get it formatted via Windows Explorer but there's a free tool around somewhere which name I don't remember (try a search).
Or (my preferred way) do it in Linux via exfat-fuse "mkfs -t exfat ...".
Greetings

You have them reversed. exFAT is the one that windows will format but that a lot of things don't support (like rockbox). Fat32 needs a special tool for larger devices, but will work in almost everything.

Oh ya! Shame on me!
Saratoga is absolutely right. It has to be FAT32(!) not exFAT (I mixed it up with my phone, where I'm using the same brand).
A RockBoxed ClipZip will do fine with a 128GB FAT32-formatted card.
Sorry

No problem :)
