Problem rewinding long recordings?

I mainly use my Sansa Clip+ for listening to three hour radio programmes and as a multi-drop delivery driver I Pause/Play the recording many times, once at each drop.  I thought the Rewind on Pause feature set to 5/10 seconds would be useful in picking up again on what the presenter was saying in between the music but I am finding that it is sometimes actually resuming playing some seconds *after* the pause point.  I also notice that towards the end of each recording the elapsed time is displaying as 3:08 hours or more when the actual recording is always 3:06 hours.

Can anyone throw any light on this and what I can do to get this to work for me?  For the moment I have turned off the Rewind on Pause feature which I guess puts me back where I was with the player I used before I got the Clip+.

You don't mention it, but I'm assuming you're using MP3?  The seek points in that format have very low accuracy in long files.

Thanks for such a prompt response.  Yes, it is mp3 format stripped from from a PVR transport stream recording.  Would converting the mp3 recording to another format help?  If so which format do you suggest?

Just an update on this:  I found advice elsewhere that I would be better stripping the native .mpa audio from the recording and playing that on my Clip+.  This I do with tsMuxeR and it has been working very well and allows the five second Pause / Play automatic rewind to work accurately across the whole duration of the three hour radio recordings.

Very occasionally though the recording header seems to get corrupted and tsMuxeR is unable to recognise and extract the audio.  Happened this week so I reverted to converting it to an .mp3.  Played it today but instead of using Pause / Play I used Stop / Start (from bookmark) which maintained the resume point accuracy for the whole recording (albeit with a 60 second automatic rewind on Stop).  Was wondering why resuming from the Pause playpoint would differ from the resume from bookmark playpoint in this respect?
