Clip+ freeze shortly after boot
« on: March 22, 2016, 04:19:02 AM »
Hello everyone.

I'm a happy owner of my Clip+ 8GB for over 2 years, but since a few days I'm having troubles with my player. I've installed Rockbox back in the end of 2013 I think, excluding few resets everything worked fine until now. Few days back my player says after boot "bad checksum". After I made restart, everything went fine, so I though that its not so serious. Few days later it showed me yellow-colour PANIC and some hex below. After reset - mp3 worked again, but I though that it will be good to check it via rockbox utility. Since my program there doesn't show anything wrong, I decided to move on. Yesterday, my mp3 player boot normally (that's the case), but few seconds after it just freezed. Restarting won't help, turning original, unchanged Sansa's software wont help (the same thing happened). Removing SDHC is also not a solution. I'm struggling to connect player to pc (having Win 7 x64), if I'm connecting it when its off, my Windows says "you must format the drive in order to use it", but when I go further it says only 30.6 MB will be the new capacity of flash. When I'm pluging turned on (regardless Rockbox or Sansa firmware) - nothing happened, player just freeze, like it normally do.

MP3 had not made any troubles like this so far, so I'm kinda new here. Both Rockbox Utility and windows itself doesn't even recognise that the turned on stuff has been plugged.

When player off - try hold select (middle button) and connect it to usb. If you  see normal drive size (8GB) - you can try format it to fat32 and reinstall rockbox - just copy .rockbox folder to drive. Better don't try update bootloader/original firmware.

If you still have small internal drive (30MB) - you can try unbricking procedure: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaAMS#Unbricking
But your player probably have hardware problem with internal drive, so not a lot of hope :(

Ok, my Clip+ is now fully naked. Looks kinda cool, I haven't found anything missing, burned, destroyed. But now - what to do, if I'm NOT having a Linux, just Windows (x64)? Is it still possible to do unbricking way of life without making new system somewhere in my PC?
