alright, so i've done the following:

a) did chkdsk on card + internal storage
b) re-riped the ones that failed to decode before
c) re-converted the rest of the 3600 files with dbpoweramp flac decoder set to fail on decode failures and to verify files after writing.
d) did the same for the 280 int storage files
e) installed dev build  that includes the commit http://git.rockbox.org/?p=rockbox.git;a=commit;h=fe9a3ceb0e09ae44d15f2636162ea534129b2137 (build starts with fe9a3c)

there are no more broken files afaik
played with the player on the train without card - no issues
inserted the card when home and went for a bike ride and the skipping started almost immediately.
you'd play a few tracks fully, then it plays part of the next and skips to the next track (sometimes near the start, sometimes half way, sometimes near the end). replay the same track - it skips again. fast forward in the track past where it skips, replay track - it doesn't skip anymore - really odd.

the card is a genuine sandisk ultra 128gb (it's had very little use). the player is a 8gb clip+.
about 15mb free on the player, 700 mb on the card.
out of about 50 files I played on the bike ride, at least 5 skipped.
I can't try a new card,  I don't own any more especially no more 128gb ones (but given is survived about 256gb read and 128gb write just now i'm very sure there's no problem)

what do we do next? There's nothing really unusual about the flac files as far as i can tell and

here's a copy of rockbox folder/dynamic playlist, etc and ones of the files that displayed the intermittent behavior above. (I'm not sure for this one if the card or the player was playing - suspect card as the other files that skipped are card, but I included both)

https://yadi.sk/d/URRvhd0gqMRcB
https://yadi.sk/d/g9GGCNcoqMQ6e

i'd prefer to remove these in about a week, so please grab copy and let me know what else you might need.

You have this problem if you play files from internal drive when sd card inserted?
Can you reproduce same problem on clip zip?

hey, sorry for the late reply - holidays

nope, from the sd card . however there are also some files on the internal storage, but i didn't notice any issues on the internal storage, only after I insert the card.

I tried a couple of times with CLIP ZIP and couldn't reproduce it.
also unable to reproduce on the X3 port.
am still able to reproduce on the dev build  fe9a3c...

Does the problem still happen with the current build? We fixed some SD card problems on the clip.

Hi again, any more luck?

I've since bought another sd card - genuine sandisk 200gb, and still the same issue with the private build

No, but if you wish to help - we can try.

1. Install new debug build:  http://knk.square7.ch/rockbox-clipplus_sd-1.zip
2. Play file on which you have problem.
3. After problem occurs wait few (2-5) seconds and press pause.
4. Enter to menu: system > debug > dump log file
5. When dump completed, connect USB.
6. You should have file .rockbox/logf.txt - upload it (or attach to your post).

Hello. So, I found this post after searching for skipping FLAC. I've got an iFlash Dual installed with two 128GB SD Cards (one Kingston and one Sandisk). I was experiencing the same problem - randomly skipping files that played OK on my mac, but it was almost every file. I was going mad.

Anyway, I found this: https://www.iflash.xyz/prepare-sdxc-exfat-for-use-with-the-ipod/

Once I'd done that to both SD cards, the problems went away - perhaps this will work for you.

Thanks,

Mike

Rockbox doesn't support exFAT at all, so he would already have had to reformat to FAT32 to even see the card contents.

So Rockbox is limited to 32GB?

Sure, but I was trying to figure out this quote above:

Won't you have to use exfat after 32gb or so?
